Sue Wiegand Nelson said that Jim Scott called her this morning 9/25/25 to say that Rick Fruechtenicht died last night. They both lived in Birmingham, Alabama and had remained friends over the years. Sue's family and Ricks family were best friends all their lives and she had remained in close contact with him over the years. Sue said she will miss him terribly. He was a wonderful man.
We will post an obituary link when we get one.

Rest in peace my friend. Over the past five years, I had the pleasure of meeting Rick and Jim Scott at times when we went to Alabama to visit our daughter. One time Rick and Jim drove down from Birmingham to Montgomery to meet me for lunch, a lunch that lasted for hours. Another time, Rick met Linda and I at our hotel in Birmingham and took us on a extensive tour of Birmingham. I have known Rick since elementary school, we rode the same bus and I would pick him up and take him to CR during our Jr and Sr years. Rick lived just up Bristol road from me and as kids we participated in all the activiyies of that time, cub scouts, boy scouts, explorers and eventually some CR activities. Great memories. Churchville was a great place to grow up and just be kids.
Rick was an intelligent guy with a very dry sense of humor. A quality person who will be missed. Again, Rest in peace, my friend.

Rick and I have been friends since grade school. I remember the football games we played in Churchville. The snow football games we played behind Rick's house. How Rick and I shoveled the snow off the church parking lot so we could play basketball.Rick and I played duplicate bridge after we retired. We did well! Then Rick joined Community Bible Study with me. His answers to the questions were so deep and often had his dry humor that made the class laugh.
Rick definitely had accepted Christ as his Savior and is now resting in His arms.

I talked to him a little while ago for about an hour or so and he seemed just fine.
I had pretty much lost touch with the guys I used to hang with in HS. With one exception.
Around the time of our 10th reunion, Rick & Doug Taylor came by when Rick was in town (Doug was working in the area at the time) spent couple hours talking in my kitchen.
