In Memory

Shirley Bruce

Shirley Bruce

Here is a picture of Shirley Bruce's wedding I would like to share with everyone.  She was married in December of 1967.  Her sister Wanda is the girl on the far left.  Her mother wrote when she sent me the picture and said that she was only able to live with her husband two weeks; then was hospitalized until she died in March.  She was a great friend and we had wonderful times together.  I was even able to visit her in Colorado right before she got sick.  John and I visited her parents in Colorado in 2003 and they were doing fine. There is so much to say about Shirley.  She passed away in March 1968 I verified with Paula Gerhart Moyer.  Her last wish was to get married, she married December 1967, we couldn't attend her wedding, shortly thereafter she passed. Paula is looking for Shirley's wedding picture, with all her moves, its been misplaced.

I could tell many many stories of stunts Shirley, Pam, Janice, Paula and Barbara pulled.  She made us all laugh constantly, she needed no encouragement.

Such a vibrant gal!

I remember Shirley always having a lovely smile and a beautiful complexion.  I still think of her hanging around and laughing with Cheryl Gill, Dottie Maxwell, Betty Eppler and Nan Brown.  What a loving tribute from Pat Wehmeyer.  I can see that Shirley lives on in the hearts of her family and friends.

As the reunion gets close, I find myself thinking of Shirley Bruce. She would have loved coming to the reunion and would have had a wonderful time laughing. Whenever I think of Shirley, I picture her smiling or laughing, having a good time. She, Paula, Nancy and I were all candy stripers together at Holy Redeemer hospital. We did our volunteer work, but always had the most fun coming and going. She was a wonderful girl and a happy soul, who left us much too early. RIP, friend.

Beverly I agree with you. Shirley was a great person and a true friend to many. I was able to walk over to her house and we would spend hours doing nothing. Remember she twirled the fire batons. She would keep trying to teach me to twirl, but to no avail. It was so sad when I learned she was sick, and she passed away so quickly. She moved right after graduation. Her father had retired and they waited for her to finish High School before they left.  Before the internet it was easy to lose contact with people once they left the area. She is missed.

Shirley was a wonderful person and a true friend and never knew she was ill. Thought of her many times over the years till our 20th reunion and found out that she had passed. We had some great times and history class with Mr Rosser was a blast. She will be deeply missed at our reunion.
